August 6, 2008 Notice of Adoption - Town Road Ordinance

TOWN OF BROOKLYN, GREEN LAKE COUNTY, WISCONSIN
NOTICE OF ADOPTION
TOWN ROAD ORDINANCE

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on July 28, 2008, the Town Board of
Supervisors of the Town of Brooklyn, Green Lake County, Wisconsin,
adopted the “Town Road Ordinance.”

The following is a summary of the ordinance and main points of the
Ordinance:

1.	The ordinance specifies the requirements, which public roads must
meet to be acceptable to the Town of Brooklyn. Virtually all roads
are constructed by private developers as residential subdivisions or
commercial projects are built. Those roads are built at the expense
of the developer. The developer dedicates the road and improvements
to the Town and the Town accepts the dedication if the road meets the
Towns standards. The Ordinance requires developers to post a bond to
assure the roads are completed properly. It provides a procedure for
approval of proposed roads, inspection during their construction on
upon their completion.
2.	The Ordinance creates penalties for damaging Town roads, makes
parties who damage roads liable for repair costs, and prohibits
constructing roads without approval.
3.	The Ordinance defines the minimum width, pavement thickness,
design standards, slopes and curvature of roads, ditching requirements
and frontage for public roads. The Ordinance also establishes minimum
standards for private roads serving residential development.
4.	The Ordinance regulates parking on town roads by prohibiting
parking on the paved surface of the road.
5.	The Ordinance specifies the requirements, which mailboxes must
meet to comply with federal postal service standards, and Town
requirements.
6.	The Ordinance specifies requirements, which new or revised private
driveways and field access roads, and associated culverts, must meet
in order to be allowed to access town roads. The Ordinance requires
persons seeking to build or revise driveways to obtain a permit based
on a plan shown to the Town.
7.	The Ordinance creates weight limits for town roads to protect
roads from excessive wear caused by heavy loads running on roads not
designed to carry them.

WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS ORDINANCE –

Any person contemplating or planning development of land,
construction or modification of a driveway, mailbox or culvert.
