March 19, 2008 LETTER TO CITY OF GREEN LAKE
Town of Brooklyn Michael D. Wuest, Chairperson N5988 County Road A Green Lake, WI 54941 Telephone: (920) 294-6600 Fax: (920) 294-6698 E-mail: townofbrooklyn@centurytel.net. Web: www.townofbrooklyn.com March 19, 2008 Mayor Joseph Parise City of Green Lake P.O. Box 216 Green Lake, WI 54941 Re: Town of Brooklyn Meeting With City Dear Mayor Parise: The Town of Brooklyn appreciates comments made at the Common Council meeting on March 17, 2008 calling for a meeting between the Town and the City to discuss the issues posed by the Lindenwood annexation. Both communities can take this opportunity to resume efforts to reach an intergovernmental agreement, efforts, which were interrupted by the controversy over this single development proposal. The Town does not oppose orderly, planned growth by the City, even if it results in annexation. We believe that recent events have shown quite vividly that both of our communities lose when development proposals divide us against one another. Both of our communities have expended tens of thousands of dollars on this dispute, money which would have better been expended elsewhere. This moment presents an opportunity. We can allow it to fuel further acrimony and division. Or, we can admit that all of us made mistakes in the recent past and move beyond them. We all share the blessings of an area with great natural beauty and potential. This shared legacy demands that we find a way to work together. Therefore, the Town endorses the suggestion that the communities meet to discuss our shared future. We need to work together. We are willing to do so. I will await your response with great interest and anticipation. Sincerely, Michael Wuest Town Chairperson
